Costume Tolerance over Time

First he was a dragon, crawling on the floor
Then he was lion, with a little roar
An elephant was next, though he did protest
So in 2023, we clearly should have guessed
That even though he'd picked it out
He wouldn't wear Marshall; instead, a pout
But this year, we have a glimmer of hope
As Wylie’s costume is simply a coat*!
So here’s wishing you happy tricks and/or treats,
With costumes (or not) and plenty of sweets!

Trick or Treat?

Wylie is going as Marshall this year
(Assuming that dressing up doesn’t cause tears)
And while he would like treats, I wouldn’t pooh-pooh
A magician performing a neat trick or two!

Costume Coaxing

My toddler and my pup don't always thoroughly agree,
Though when it comes to Halloween, eye-to-eye is how they see:
Scary things are a hard no, while candy gets a lively yes...
But only if the sweets do not insist on costume dress!

I Want Candy

Halloween's no doubt admired by all children, ghouls, and ghosts,
But I'll bet my bottom Kit Kat that my dentist loves it most!

Fruit Fright

With some fake apple juice and a slick headband knife,
One fruit gave another the scare of its life...
(And this gross play on words is a horrific scene
But please don't let it ruin your fun Halloween!)

Heading into Halloween

Inspired by my new pursuit
(And hankering for candied loot)
On this nearing Day of the Dead
I'm looking forward to what's ahead!

Ghost busters

In the air
on the road
Chicago, LA
with a cold

Here's all I have
up my sleeve
on this busy
All Saint's Eve

Toil + Trouble

Such a perfect time of year
To brush up on works of Shakespeare,
Camp and hike deep in the wood,
Spot some witches in their hood,
Pick a pumpkin, bake a pie,
Go for a crisp fall bike ride,
Discuss supernatural theories,
Watch the Red Sox rock the Series!!

Family, friends, and SEEKers all:
Happy Halloween, and to all a great fall!

Straight Up Halloween

East Coast friends: I hope the storm went easy on your home...
The rest of you are fortunate you weren’t in Sandy’s roam!
In Boston, it felt mostly like a brisk October shower,
And thankfully the Frankenstorm did leave us with our power.

Now I'm hoping it's not in poor taste to try to make you laugh;
I drew this comic long before I knew of Sandy’s wrath!

Eye want candy

"Candy
is dandy."
(Or so says Ogden Nash.)

But I don't mind
the EYE kind..
(If I may be brash!)

Halloween 2009

Here's to a day filled with ghosts made of sheets
And pumpkins with faces and all kinds of sweets
And kids dressed in costumes that come to your door

Like Gosselin and Jackson and Balloon Boy and more!

Helpful Halloween Hint:

If you're trying to save money on this Ween that is Hallo,
Keep in mind that the candy will be on sale tomorrow!

Halloween 2007

The leaves on the Common are beginning to thin,
as the beauty of fall in Boston sets in,
while the crisp and cool October air
makes my bike ride to work quite a teary affair.

The Sox won the series in a fantastic sweep,
and now I can finally get a decent night's sleep...
The parade passed right by where I work yesterday--
what an outrageous, outstanding, outspoken soirée!

Speaking of work, as you can see from my sketch,
I've been researching chips for quite a long stretch.
It's been fun, it's been grand, to be sure a good time,
but by now I just wish they'd get out of my mind!

Here's hoping that you will enjoy a fine treat,
on this Halloween day when the snacks are all sweet!

When you work on so many projects researching consumers' thoughts and feelings about salty snacks, they start to appear in your hobbies. We even did a potluck lunch in the office with a particular cheesy triangular chip a few months back. I still have nightmares about that.

Halloween 2006

One of my friends pointed out that for her, this should have said 'My husband put a red sock in the wash again'.
